We want to hear your rural development strategies and success stories!

A few weeks ago, we reached out to you about an opportunity to share with us any regional and/or community economic development initiatives that are currently underway in your area. As the Department of Economic Development works to develop a new website with a section devoted specifically to rural development, this is a perfect opportunity to help rural communities connect and grow by sharing best practices and developing a resource guide for those struggling with new and creative local development strategies.

It's not too late to send us your ecodevo strategies and success stories! Did your community successfully capitalize on a local attraction to increase tourism? Or perhaps launch a workforce development initiative that has increased the skills of your local labor force to attract new or expanding businesses? If your community has news to share in any of the following categories, we would love to hear it!

► Overall Rural Development Strategies
► Leadership
► Workforce Development
► Regional Collaboration
► Entrepreneurship
► Tourism/Culture

Need an example? Check out this news from Howell County, which recently earned the Certified Work Ready Community designation and opened its new Greater Ozarks Center for Advanced Technology (GOCAT). GOCAT, a specialized training center aimed at providing advanced, hands-on manufacturing training to individuals looking for technical skills, is a joint effort among Missouri State University-West Plains, the South Central Career Center, and the City of West Plains to help local workers achieve certifications and two-year degrees that match the skills needed by area advanced manufacturing employers.

We look forward to hearing about and promoting your unique local initiatives on our new website! As the website is currently underway, please send us your strategies by June 30, 2016 using the contact information below. We all love our communities - now lets show the rest of the world how much rural Missouri Feels Like Home to growing businesses and families.
