Good afternoon. Wanted to share a dairy farm tour I enjoyed today at the Foremost Dairy farm just outside of Columbia, Missouri. The Missouri farm is a little over 800 acres. The cool things about this farm, donated by Mr. Penney from JC Penney is that it is pretty much run by the students of our fine Missouri University. The students are learning with hands on experience various components of the dairy industry such as animal nutrition, animal birthing, pest control, portion control and production. The business is extremely scientific and very much about taking great care of the animals and their offspring. The other thing about the tour today was that Missouri is doing a fine job of producing another young generation of kids to be involved in the agricultural industry and in the dairy industry. There were a lot of students there from the University of Missouri and they were excited to working and learning about the ag business in general. We in Missouri agriculture, are creating another whole generation of successive agricultural minded individuals. These kids are ready to run the farm as a family business like it has historically been. As you may know, over 95% of most dairy farms are run by families. If you are the owner of a family owned dairy farm and are wondering how to make an easy transition from the dairy business to that stage of your retirement years, let's get together and discuss how that transition may occur. Many children of dairy farmers are not always wanting to step into the shoes of dairymen and they may have other passions such as business, entertainment industry, culinary arts and more that is more geared toward their journey in life. Regardless of what is going on with you and your family, let's start the conversation about the next generation of dairy on your farm. Missouri wants dairy and encourages the agricultural business community in our fine state. Let's talk farming operations and your ultimate goals, whatever those are. As always having the right professionals such as accountants, real estate attorneys and your Realtor with you at the planning table is important. Call me Donna Joerling at 314.808.1712 today and let's schedule some time to discuss your dairy farm succession planning.
